I dont't like the site colors. How do I change them?
On the very bottom of each page there is a drop list to Select a Theme. If you prefer a white background, select Silver. If you prefer the darks with blacks and deep grays, select Dark Night. This will be applied to all pages you view.
How do I make the site fill my browser window?
On the top right of the page in the status bar is a small bubble icon. Clicking on this icon when it shows a + will maximize the window. Clicking on it when it is a - will set the window to a fixed width.
How do I become a member?
Click on Register Located on the top right of the screen in the status window. You will see a very simple registration form with some basic questions. Complete the required fields and click on the submit button and then wait for the confirmation email.
I did not receive my confirmation email.
Please check your spam folder if you did not receive the confirmation email. The confirmation email may be treated as spam by some email clients. If you have difficulties, please send us an email.
How do I edit my settings?
When you are logged on, click on Tools. You will then be able to customize your setting by clicking on the My Settings menu option. Another way to make changes to your settings is by clicking on My Profile link within the Tools menu. Here, you can upload your avatar and also navigate to the My Settings page as well.
What about Private messaging?
Private messaging lets you send messages to other members of Nikon Images without having to send an actual email. Anywhere you see the link Send Message, clicking on it will address your message to the member associated with the link you clicked on. Or, simply click on the PM link on the top menu to see your list of PM's and a link to create a new one. The PM system here is unique in that it lets you add other members to a private conversation as it grows. If you checked the Receive emails after new PM setting in your profile, you will receive an email notification every time a reply or new message is posted that you are on the recipient list. Also, the top menu bar will change from saying PM to displaying an envelope with a number next to it. This indicates you have one or more unread messages in your in box.
I don't see a search or category option.
To minimize clutter on the gallery page, you can toggle the Categories and Search windows by clicking on the Show or Hide category/search options link.
I want to search by a specific lens used
One of the feature that sets us apart from other sites is the ability to search by lens used. From the Home page or the Gallery page you can just click on the drop down list of lenses to search by and you will see all photos taken with the lens selected. By the way, you can also search for photos taken with a specific camera as well. It's right there next to the lens list on the Gallery page.
If you would like to stay informed of the latest uploads, subscribe to the gallery rss by selecting it from the top menu bar.
How do I upload photos?
When you are logged on, go to the gallery home page. On the title bar above the gallery thumb nails there is a link titled Upload Photos. Click on this link and follow the directions for uploading. Pay close attention to the limitations in place like uploads per day, file size etc ... It is all on the Upload Photo page.
How many photos can I upload?
For now, the limit is 30 images per day. Depending on how traffic and volume goes, I may adjust the limit up or down.
What are Quick Collections?
If you are the image owner and are showing the Edit Options window while viewing your picture, You will see a Quick Collection field. Simply enter the name of a new collection and the photo will be added to this new collection.
How do assign a photo to multiple collections?
If you are the image owner and are showing the Edit Options window while viewing your picture, you will see a drop list of all your collections. Hold the control key on your keyboard and select the multiple collections to assign a photo to. This will NOT duplicate the photo. It assigns pointers to the photo from the collection. This method allows you to have a large number of collections and one photo in various Collections. For example a photo of a Mt Hood can be assign to my collection of "Mountains" and to my other collection of "Mountains of the Pacific Northwest".
What is the Action option?
If you are the image owner and are showing the Edit Options window while viewing your picture, you will see a drop list of Actions. These are Keep Photo, Hide Photo, Delete Photo. The Hide Photo Option keeps the photo from public view but is visible to you. Delete Photo physically deletes it from the gallery. Keep Photo, makes your photo viewable by the public again.
What is Replace Photo?
If you are the image owner and are showing the Edit Options window while viewing your picture, you will see a Replace Photo link. This allows you to replace an existing photo and retain all comments and statistics for it. This is good if you decide you want to adjust your photo a bit and upload the new version.
What is Edit Collection?
If you are the image owner and are showing the Edit Options window while viewing your picture, you will see an Edit Collection Link. This allows you to rename or delete collections. Deleting a collection will NOT delete the photo.
What is the blue envelope under the photo?
Clicking on the blue envelope send an email with a link to the photograph. You simply supply the email address.
What are Search Filter?
This can best be explained HERE. All I can say they are really nifty
Can I search by EXIF data?
This is a cool feature. If you view a photo and see exif data underneath, simply click on the data link and you will do a keyword search based on the data. For example if you see a photo and the EXIF data shows 135mm for the focal length, clicking on the 135mm link will show you all photos where a 135mm lens was used. Same goes for camera, and other data.
