Answers to your questions:

1. All photos were taken "hand held".
2. It was a "manual mode" with the auto-iso.
3. It was the Nikkor 70-300VR lens, which works very good with aerial photographs. Of course, must be set to "Continuous autofocus" ;)

I was on the top of montain, so enough for my 70-300 lens (116mm exactly.) Under normal circumstances, would I need a min. 400mm

I was lucky that the aircraft oriented themselves. I spent four days shooting planes and I was able to find such a situation ;)
