Albums, projects, and portfolios on this site are all built from the same foundation: the album. While they share the core function of organizing your photography, each serves a specific purpose and offers a unique viewing experience based on how you categorize them.

Albums

An album is a standard collection of photos. When you create an album, the default view is a clean gallery grid, making it the primary way to organize and display groups of images to your audience. While the grid is the standard view, you can also view any album as a slide show by clicking the "View as slideshow" link located on the far right of the header.

Projects

A project is an album that you have specifically tagged as a project or assignment during the creation process. While it contains a collection of photos just like a standard album, its default presentation is a slide show. Furthermore, projects are designed to provide more context; they automatically include your biography or any specific details you have added to the bio section in your user settings, allowing you to tell the story behind the work.

Portfolios

A portfolio is a specialized presentation of your work based on one or more selected albums. It features a professional header at the top, which includes your custom background image, avatar, a follow button, a contact button, and social media sharing options. Below this header, your bio is displayed, followed by a grid style gallery of the images from your source albums. If you select multiple albums as the source for your portfolio, the images from all of those collections will be consolidated into this single, high impact display.

Custom Landing Pages

When you share your personal URL (username.nikonimages.com), you have control over the first impression visitors receive. You can choose whether a visitor lands on your portfolio page, your profile page, or your gallery page. This landing page preference can be adjusted at any time within your account settings.

When using your personalized URL, ensure you remove any spaces or periods from your username. For example, if your username is "John Doe" or "John.doe," your shared link would simply be johndoe.nikonimages.com.

To set up your albums, projects, and portfolios, follow these steps to organize and present your work effectively.

Getting Started

Make sure you are logged in, then go to your dashboard by clicking on your avatar at the top right of the menu. Once on the dashboard, look at the menu on the left side and find Albums & Projects. Click on Edit Albums & Projects. From there, select "Create new Album or Project" Give it a name and click the Add Album / Project button. You will then be redirected to the Manage your Albums and Projects page.

Managing Your Collections On the management screen, you will see a list of your albums. If you have existing albums, a number is displayed to the left of each album name indicating how many photos are in that collection. Clicking on that number will take you to a view of the album and its individual photos.

For each entry, you have several quick toggle options:

  • Private: Check this box to make the album hidden from public view.

  • Project: Check this box to tag the album as a Project, which changes the default view to a slideshow and includes your bio info.

  • Portfolio: Check this box to include the images from this specific album in your main portfolio display.

  • Delete: This option removes the album organization. Note that deleting an album does not delete the original images from your account.

Configuring Your Portfolio

To finalize your Portfolio, go to your portfolio settings. Here, you can confirm which albums are being used as your source of images. In the settings, you can also upload a specific background image for your header and ensure your avatar is up to date. This section is where you enable the contact, follow, and social media share buttons that appear in the professional header above your bio and image grid.

Setting Your Default Landing Page

To control what visitors see when they use your personalized URL, go to your account settings. Look for the "Select landing page for your subdomain" Make your choice from the radion buttons. Once saved, anyone visiting your subdomain will be directed to that specific page immediately.

Using Your Personalized URL Your URL is automatically generated based on your username, but it requires a specific format for sharing. Take your registered username and remove any spaces or periods. For example, if your username is "John Doe" or "John.doe," your shared link would be johndoe.nikonimages.com. This simplified link is what you should use for your social media bios or email signatures to ensure visitors reach your chosen landing page.

Adding Photos to Your Album or Project

Back on the Album & Project manager page where you set your Private or Project status, click on "Manage album or Project photos" This will bring you to the "Edit photo Details" page. Here, you will see your photos displayed in rows; either four across in expanded view or three across in condensed view.

To assign photos to your album:

  1. Scroll down to the list of albums under the "Albums & Projects" heading for a specific photo.

  2. Hold down the Ctrl-key (this ensures that if a photo is already assigned to another album, you do not accidentally unassign it).

  3. Click on the albums you wish to assign the photo to.

  4. Click "Apply Edits" to save your changes.

Additional settings

To modify additional settings, from the dashboard, on the left hand side under the "Other" heading you will see "Account settings" click on that to make additional settings including your bio and landing page.
