martin, the ISO was a total screw up on my part. I was in extremely foggy conditions prior to this. Re the aperture, it actually was at f/8, just read incorrectly in EXIF b/c I had the 50 1.4 lens selected in my non-cpu lens. I needed to have as much DOF as possible as I wanted both flowers in focus. you are correct, to get the most out of it you want to stay at/under f/8 at base ISO if possible.

Thanks Akul! Yes, it is ice that I'm actually standing on. Just a frozen pool on the road. The grain is very small bubbles in the ice, but there's also some noise of course, mainly because of heavy contrast enhancement.
