Ah...I see what you mean about the focusing Michiel. I guess timing is key as well. I'll definitely keep these composition notes in mind. I'm going to try this shot again, when i can. I just purchased a D7000. I realize the camera won't make me a better photographer, but I like the quick access of the external composition options. Anyway, thanks for the criticism and the info. Hi CJ, As I said I think the idea and the resulting composition are great certainly in B&W, so only compliments there. But a lot depends on the execution, and there the image falls down a bit. DoF at 300m, even at f6.3, is razor thin, which would have worked extremely well if the cigartip would have been the point of focus, and even more if you would have caught the tip glowing. The rectangular vignetting (if that's what it is) looks a bit heavy, but is a matter of taste. The D3100 (as the D700 which I have) probably freezes focusing when you partly depress the release button, and if you select one focusing field in the viewfinder through the menu instead of all of them, you can focus really accurately.
